I have reached the age
where you cannot hold
all of your plans
in your head.
I fry the bacon
or the eggs
but not usually both.
I go to the greenhouse
but forget why I went,
or I remember the reason
but arrive elsewhere.
Shall I pay the milk bill,
write to my sister,
or apply for an overdraft?
Because I can manage one of these,
two on a good day,
but no more.
It averages out
at about fifty per cent.
The other day
I had ten things to do
and achieved five
including all of the shopping list.
A triumph!
A pity
that zipping my fly
was one of the others
but never mind.
I have now decided
to halt global warming
bring about world peace
eliminate malaria
explain why time is one-directional
run the first two-hour marathon
and solve the prime problem.
Three of those
should keep most people happy.
